An Important Reason Why You Should Consider Choosing Your Baby's Gender
All of us at some point in our lives wished we could decide with some certainty that we would have the boyfriend or girlfriend of our choice. Genus selection of offspring has been a pursuit of humanity for centuries, not just since the times of the Greeks and Romans.
Western countries are believed to have spent more than a billion dollars on research of this type. The old woman's tales and folklore flourished because of our desire to have the baby we have chosen. The ancient Chinese are said to have devised a system that is 65 percent accurate. But first, why would anyone want to choose their baby's gender?
Is any child, boy or girl a gift from nature and should be welcomed as such?
Over the years, several reasons have been given for preferring a child of a particular gender.
The most important reason, and the one I strongly support, for trying to influence the sex of your baby at the time of conception is medical. It is now known that many disabilities are passed down from generation to generation through genes. Many of these disabilities are gender specific. For example, a woman herself may not suffer from a disease linked to the gene, but she will pass the gene that causes the disease to her sons, who will later be affected by the disease. There are more than 350 X-linked diseases (diseases that only boys inherit), some of them fatal, such as hemophilia, muscular dystrophy, and X-linked hydrocephalus, and gender selection is almost a must for these families If the woman has a known carrier of an X-linked disorder, sex selection is the only way to try to prevent transmission of the disease to a male child.
Some may accuse these couples of playing God. But couples trying to select gender often have practical reasons for doing so. The quality of life becomes a problem for both parents and the child. For example, will the child be so disabled that he will suffer from perpetual discomfort? What will happen to this child if the parents can no longer take care of him? Can parental marriage withstand the stress of raising a baby who will need to be constantly breastfed and who will never live a normal life? Can the same argument of playing God be used against contraceptives and abortion?
You have to make the decisions in life that you feel are necessary. Sometimes gender selection, trying to improve the odds in favor of conceiving a boy or girl as desired, is a choice that must be made.
