Christmas is the most mysterious holiday! Christians celebrate it all over the world. It is too special a holiday as all the traditions have been handled by our grandparents and parents.
Since November, no one has forgotten that Christmas is coming. Colored lights decorate many city centers and shops and artificial snow painted on shop windows and cafes. In the streets and in the shops, even the "Christmas trees", veritable evergreen or plastic "coniferous" trees, are decorated with Christmas lights and decorations. Shopping centers are getting more and more crowded. The speaker systems in them play "Christmas carols," the traditional Christian Christmas carols. Quite often, groups of people sing these carols to raise money for charity. In mid-December, most people decorate their homes with Christmas trees, colored lights, make different decorations around the rooms. Some people decorate their trees with apples, nuts, and candles as in the past. In many countries, most people send Christmas cards with happy birthday to their friends and family, and these cards are hung on the walls of their homes. Traditional Christmas cards featured religious images: Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus, or other parts of the Christmas story. The images of today are often winter images, jokes, Santa Claus or romantic scenes from the life of yesteryear.
"Santa Claus" (or "Santa Claus") has become the human face of Christmas. In the pictures we can see the old man with a long white beard, a red coat and a bag of toys. Children are taught that he brings them gifts the night before Christmas (or in some countries December 6, St. Nicholas' Day), and many 7- or 8-year-olds really believe this to be true. Santa's story begins with a man named Saint Nicholas. He was bishop of Myra in Asia Minor (today Turkey) in the 4th century AD. He was very shy and wanted to give money to the poor without them knowing. One day he went up to the roof of a house and dropped a lot of money into the chimney. He landed on the sock, which a girl had put to dry by the fire! This may explain the belief that Santa comes down the chimney and puts gifts in children's socks.
For many it is too interesting to know: how did Christmas start?
From 400 AD approximately, Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. "Christ" means "Messiah", the title given to Jesus. Unfortunately, the true meaning of Christmas is often forgotten. It has become a non-religious holiday! More children believe in Santa Claus, not Jesus. Christmas Day is a holiday where you eat, drink too much, watch television and do other activities. But the true story of Christmas is found in the Christian Bible. After the birth of Jesus, some sages came to look for him, from an area that is now in Iran or Saudi Arabia. It is true that there were three sages (or three kings). The story goes that they had seen an unusual star in the sky informing them of the birth of a special king. To honor the child, he brought rich gifts: gold, frankincense (a burning resin with a beautiful smell) and myrrh (very strong sweet-smelling vegetable oil). These gifts tell us three basic things about Jesus: Gold - a gift worthy of a King, Frankincense - burned in worship to God, Myrrh - a sign of mortal humanity, used to bury the dead. Jesus lived too difficult a life. He was and is "common man" to all of us, as he came to identify with every racial group. Christmas postcards from different countries usually show Mary, Joseph and Jesus in that country's landscape and with the racial aspect of that nationality. “No one else has had such an effect on human life as Jesus. He has come back to life and millions of people say they know him today as a friend and a helper in their lives. You owe it to yourself to learn more about him. Is he who he claimed to be?
